Most touching passage When I was reading the book, I was quite shocked when I read this; about how a little boy is having his punishment for doing some boyish panks. His wrote it down so clear, that you almost feel his pain and his fury about his father. I am glad that parents now are not allowed to hit you and that you could have help if your parents do it, because I think it is stupid that Paddy’s parents were allowed to hit him. Paddy wrote it down so good, that when I read the book, I could not believe that his father was so bad. This page is one of the most touching pages in the book, the most of the pages were full of happy people and here he’s writing only about how sad he felt. He hates his little brother, Francis, and you can feel that in the sentences at the bottom of the page, in which he writes that Francis knew that some of Paddies marks should have been his. It is strange, because sometimes he writes that he likes his brother and sometimes not. Explanation of the title It is not very hard to explain the title of Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha. The main character of the book is Patrick Clarke. Most of his friends call him Paddy Clarke, because Patrick is the name of five of his classmates. They all have a special name and Paddy is Patrick Clarke’s name. Ha Ha Ha is a part of the title because Paddy does boyish panks with his friends and they always laugh about the consequences of those. Together makes that the title Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha. The title Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha is not very original, so I thought of a more original title. I have chosen for Parents war, because Paddy writes half of the book about his parents. The have much problems and Paddy wants to protect them of each other. He stays awake all night because he is scared that his parents would quarrel when he sleeps. Although thy still quarrel and you can almost call it a war. That is the reason that I have chosen for Parents war as title.
Review Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha is a book about a ten year old boy, his problems, his school and his friends. The author alternates humour with trouble, which makes the book interesting. When you start with the book, you won’t stop reading. In Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha are the troubles of Paddy quite good written down. You can feel his troubles and his pain and after a while you will be as angry at his parents as he. If your parents have arguments all time, than you certain will like this book. If you don’t too. The sole critical point I have is that Paddy Clarke thinks that it is allowed for boys to steal of old and handicapped people. That is not a good model for young readers. For the rest it is a good and funny book. Interview 1 Paddy, where do you think your parents have quarrels about? · Like I wrote in my book, I think that my parents have quarrels about all little stupid things. None of them are important, but together changes it the sphere in house properly. Sinbad and I listen always in our bed to the noises coming from downstairs and I can always hear if they are having quarrels. Sinbad doesn’t want to know it, but he surely knows it and he doesn’t like it because he is afraid that our parents will get divorced. May be it is better if they do… 2 Why do you always name Francis Sinbad? · When he was small he always watched the tv-serie Sinbad the sailor and he looked like Sinbad too. Because I like to tease my little brother, I call him Sinbad. He doesn’t like it, but he listens to it, so why shouldn’t I? Indeed, even my father calls him Sinbad to tease him! My mother says that I shouldn’t name him Sinbad, but I don’t listen to her. 3 Why do you steal so much of old and handicapped people? · That is a simple question! If you steal of normal and fast people, you have more chance to be catched. I really like the tension if you steal something. We sometimes have matches to see who can steal the biggest box and I win mostly, because I know where you can find the best boxes. We never steal valuable stuff, because that is not allowed, but I think that stealing small things is not a big problem. Proverb Like tree, like fruit is the proverb I have chosen for this book. It means to say that if you are not rich or noble, that you won’t become real rich or noble. I think that that is what the writer wants to tell the reader of the book. Paddy is a normal ten year old boy of a labourer and what he tries or does he will never become a real noble person. In the book can you read that his father has a problem with that, but Paddy doesn’t, he accepted that he will stay a labourer’s son. All of his friends are labourer’s sons, so they only play with children of the same class. The children of the new buildings are wealthier than them, so they don’t play with them. You can have problems with that, says the writer, but it is the truth.
